Presentation title:

Fostering student voice at post-primary level in schools: Reflections on research and practice


The presentation will explore the complexity of student voice as situated currently in the context of Irish post-primary schools. The presentation will explore student voice in the classroom and at whole-school level, and will look to theopportunities presented by the Framework for Junior Cycle (2015) and Looking at our School (2016) to extend the acoustic of student voice in our post-primary schools.



Domnall Fleming was a teacher in a number of second-level schools in Cork from 1980 - 2002. He was also seconded on a part-time basis to the NCCA as Education Officer to the Leaving Certificate Geography Course Committee from 1996-2002. He lectured, also on a part-time basis, to PGDE students in UCC from 1997 – 2002.  He was appointed as an inspector with the Department of Education and Skills in 2002, and as a senior inspector in 2004. In 2013 he was conferred with a PhD in Education at UCC. In February 2018 he took up a full-time lecturing post in the School ofEducation in UCC.
