NAPD R5 AGM - Monday September 19th at 3pm in Langton's Kilkenny
Pat McKenna - Director of Childwatch will address the following issues at our AGM
Personal Images:
Whilst there are many issues that are of concern to educators with respect to online activities of young people, the difficulties arising from misuse of images raises questions about safety and reputation that can affect a young person long after they have reached adulthood.
There have been disturbing trends in this space since 2008 that have never been properly and effectively dealt with in a legislative or educational sense, and students are being adversely affected by the fallout, often entirely without their knowledge.
Our talk to NAPD Region 5 will illuminate what has been occurring and illustrate the issues that are a concern for educators, parents and students. We will demonstrate matters such image traceability and establishing identity. We will address social media, messaging programs and examine why young people take such risks producing and distributing their own revealing images.
Lastly we will address issues relating to schools websites and the potential to inadvertently become part of the problem through sharing images and names of students.
