Notes on Region 5 meeting - March 10th in Langton's Kilkenny

A big thank you to those who attended our Region 5 meeting yesterday.

Dr. Aidan Mulqueen, Vice President of Maynooth University, gave us valuable insight into  reforms taking place across all 7 Universities in Ireland.

Dr. Mulqueen also told us of the rationale behind the change of the Leaving Cert. points system and its impact on entry requirements moving forward. The group heard about the factors that impact entry requirements and about further possible reforms yet to be confirmed.

Chairperson R5, Rachel O' Connor & Dr. Aidan Mulqeen, Maynooth University.

To: NAPD L4L Advisory Group AND Ps and DPs involved with Mike Hughes & Graham Powell Learning & Teaching Workshop

Hello all

I would like to invite you to attend this workshop, a collaboration between NAPD and the National Parents' Council - which has 2 purposes:
(1) Provide an opportunity for parents to experience what modern learning looks like in practice
(2) Explore with parents the key role they can play as advocates for education reform
Full details are below.  There is no fee payable.  Since it will take place on the first Saturday after schools return after Easter, we need to know no later than next Wednesday, 16 March, if you are interested.
Principals, Deputies and up to 2 parents per school are welcome.
Please let me know if you require further information.
Chapters 6 and 7 in Claxton's recent "Educating Ruby" - a short and very easy read - are well worth thinking about in advance.
Best wishes
Barry
